Wyldest - Seastroke - single review

Wyldest - the brain child and musical project of London based artist Zoe Mead has released her newest single ‘Seastroke’, as well as being a solo release for the artist, the song is also one of the numbers that Mead created as part of the soundtrack to the short film Birdwatcher.

The song is a mostly instrumental number filled with a heady mix of sound and feeling. The instrumental filled number has a relaxed and chilled out feel due to the acoustic sound and it also leaves the listener with a transcendent and other worldly musical experience

In terms of lyrics there isn’t a large amount in the song with only two verses; but the vocals that Mead does provide are an extra bonus that helps elevate the song to an extra level.

Her voice has a somewhat hypnotic quality to it that lulls the reader into a state of total serenity and peace.

The song is an experience in itself and it’s a beautiful soundscape of serenity and peace. It’s a feeling of escape, of freedom and of breaking free. It conjures up images of a gentle breeze blowing through your hair and raising goosebumps on your skin as it invigorates you and brings your sense to life. Seastroke is a song that makes you want to get away from the world and just be free to live your life without the worries of the world weighing you down.

It’s about the experience of freedom and the peace you can find in getting away any escape you can find in unexpected places. It shows that you can find strength and energy in the things that scare you with this demonstrated in the lyric ‘I’m drowning in the waves, but underwater I’m alive’ - this explains the embodiment of the songs feel. The song’s peaceful and escapism style is that feeling of being alive underwater, it’s that moment of calm in amongst the chaos and this song provides listeners with their own serenity in the madness, when the world leaves you feeling like your drowning, then let yourself fall into the waters of this song and allow yourself to become calm and alive again.

As a whole the song becomes a meditative style experience with its combination of the repetitive soothing quality of acoustic instrumentals and the beautifully haunting vocals from Mead. It transports the listener to a different state and provides them with a ‘moment’ be it a moment of reflection, a moment of serenity, or a moment of escape. If you’re looking for a temporary escape or just for good music then this single is a must listen.
